This may be too annoying of a game feature but…
In real life, occasionally your landlord chooses to raise your rent or worse: chooses to just not renew it. That would force the player to decide whether to relocate their business (a huge pain) or buy the building from the landlord (a huge expense).
I don’t know if this idea is workable. The only way I could see it working as a challenging and fun mechanic (instead of infuriating) is if it only started happening in late, late game after you’re done setting up all your businesses and are moving on to production.
Just some more thoughts…
