Is it normal for my save data to be wiped after an update? If it is, let me know, if not, then move this into bugs.
Saves between alphas aren’t currently supported. This basically means that Alpha 7 saves will only work on Alpha 7. They’re not removed though, but if you’ve updated to Alpha 8 you can’t access the Alpha 7 saves (unless you get back to Alpha 7 :P)

You can also manually copy the savegame from the folders (alpha 7 → alpha 8), and cross your fingers 
0% guarantee.
